Polyethylene (PE)

Polyethylene (PE) is a thermoplastic with almost limitless applications. Read more about the different forms of PE, including marine grade high-density PE, below.

What is Polyethylene (PE)?

Polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer, meaning that it responds to heat for moulding and shaping. Its versatility makes it the most widely produced plastic in the world.

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), the low density version of PE is is a very flexible material. Popular applications include packaging film, bin liners, single-use shopping bags, wire insulation, squeeze bottles and toys.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the high density version of PE, is commonly used in food packaging and household items, including blow-moulded milk bottles, buckets, cleaning product bottles and lids.

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) is even tougher, making it the plastic of choice for high-abrasion applications, such as chain guides, marine dock fender pads and even bulletproof vests.
